Metallic raw materials
Datasets
Metallic raw materials are resources of economic value that are typically sourced from metal-bearing minerals. This dataset shows the sites where metallic raw materials have been located or mined in the past in Switzerland. Currently, no metallic raw materials are commercially exploited. Because of their specific chemical, electrical, or magnetic properties, metallic raw materials are used in various industrial production processes. Examples include the production of metal alloys, semiconductors (chips), strong permanent magnets, high-performance energy storage systems and other high-tech components. Some metallic raw materials are currently classified as Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) in the European Union and some are considered absolutely essential for the energy transition. Several sites listed in this dataset indicate a mineralization that may contain one or more critical raw materials. The concent
