Import controls for plant-based foods from third countries

Some high-risk plant-based foods from certain third countries are subject to temporary increased controls when entering Switzerland. These are carried out by the BVS at Geneva or Zurich airport. Additionally, at a stipulated frequency official samples are taken from a randomly-selected proportion of imported consignments of plant-based food subject to temporary increases controls. The samples are tested in an accredited laboratory for chemical residues and pathogenic microorganisms. If the result of this test is non-compliant, an objection is issued and the affected consignment is disposed of.
